mashing up libraries since 2008

Mashed Library UK 2009 (sponsored by Talis)

Mashed Library UK 2009 ("Mash Oop North!") will take place at the University of Huddersfield on Tuesday July 7th. The event is now fully booked, and the sponsored places left for students on LIS courses have now been allocated.

The online registration form is available via this page and here's some good reasons to attend! If you decide you'd still like register, your name will be placed on a waiting list.

Please use this forum to discuss the event

The primary sponsors of "Mash Oop North" are Talis and they'll be making sure you don't faint from lack of nourishment at the event :-)

If you'd like to learn more about the delegates, keep an eye on this series of blog posts. The plan is to have a "blog chat" with all 70 delegates!

As well as Ning, there's also a blog for the event @ mashlib09.wordpress.com. The tag for the event is mashlib09 (or #mashlib09 for tweets).

Mashed Library is about "bringing together interested people and doing interesting stuff with libraries and technology".

Mashed Libraries UK 2008

Mashed Libraries UK 2008 took place on the 27th November 2008 at Birkbeck College, London.

You can see photos from the event at http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/mashlib08/, and there are a number of write-ups from attendees, including:

I'll add more as I'm aware of them.

There is also a write up available from the organiser (he may be biased) - which may contain some useful thoughts for anyone wanting to organise a similar event in the future.

Library Journal has a piece (thanks to Roy Tennant, who provided some advice/pointers before the event), and FRBR.org (William Denton) also mentions it.

Finally, you might enjoy this video:

The tag for the event was mashlib08 if you want to search for posts, tweets, photos etc.

With 30 years of close engagement with libraries, UKOLN was pleased to sponsor Mashed Libraries UK 2008.

Remixing Data at ELAG (European Library Automation Group)

This didn't seem to fit into the Useful URLs bucket, but is an interesting blogpost from Metalogue covering some developments elsewhere in Europe http://community.oclc.org/metalogue/archives/2009/05/remixing-data-at-elag.html

OCLC web services in the house

Tim from web services group at OCLC here. Thanks for getting this event going, we would like to have someone from our group participate.
I'm especially interested in web-services management issues for providers -- economic models, access control, usage policies, scalable deployment -- and in how to assist experimentation and innovation around services.
hope to see you all September-October-ish.
thanks,
Tim McCormick

So what have we got to play with? (Sussex)

No point in trying to list all the web services out there, but thought it worth noting what *we* have that I/we could play with (note: not suggesting we use any/all of these, just putting them down as options!)

* Talis Alto (LMS) - we also have Keystone, send a borrower number (as XML), get an account summary and single sign URL back (also as XML).

* SFX - has some APIs, never played with them

* Metalib (but not X server).

* eprints : should be version 3.1 by the time we meet up, which shoul… Continue
