Mashed Libraries UK 2009 is currently in the planning stages - we currently have no venue, date or agenda. If you want to help rectify this, or just are interested in coming along when we have all the above sorted out, please leave a message here, and keep an eye on this website for further announcements.
I had a chat with Owen at the Dev8d event and I'd be more than happy for the University of Huddersfield to host the event, but only if we can call it "Mash Oop North" ;-)
What I'd like to know is how you feel about the geographical location. You can see where Huddersfield is on Google Maps (http://tinyurl.com/abgqfu).
Travel wise, Huddersfield is one of the main stops on the Transpennine rail link, so it's easy to get to from Liverpool (80 minutes), Manchester (30 mins), Leeds (20 mins), Wakefield (35 mins), York (45 mins) and Hull (80 mins). Manchester is a major stop on the West Coast Line, and Wakefield, Leeds & York are major stops on the East Coast Line. There's also a rail connection to Halifax and Bradford, and a stopping service to Sheffield along the scenic Penistone Line.
The Transpennine link also has a regular rail service to Manchester Airport (50 mins). Leeds/Bradford Airport is closer to Huddersfield, but you'd need to use the bus service to get from the Airport to Leeds Railway Station and then a train to Huddersfield (so it can be quicker to get from Manchester Airport).
By car, Huddersfield close to the M62 (jnc 23/24) and the M1 (jnc 38).
Apolgies for the lack of updates -- 7th July is pretty much fixed in stone now and we're just getting the venue and capacity finalised. Watch this space!!!
