I just wanted to get everyone's thoughts about having a small registration fee for the event.
For the formal(ish) opening sessions, we'd like to be able to cover the travel expenses of the speakers and there may also be some minor costs with ensuring the venue fully meets our needs. The registration fee will only be applicable if you are in employment (i.e. we'd anticipate YPOW would pay) and it'll be waived for any full-time students wishing to attend the event. We're also hoping that student librarians wishing to attend will also be able to apply for sponsorship to have their travel costs reimbursed.
So, in the spirit of the event, would a registration fee of £15 put you off (or make you think twice about) attending? If you have any strong feelings, please leave a reply.
I'm hoping that the lack of discussion here means that people aren't put off by the idea of a small registration fee. I certainly wouldn't mind paying this kind of fee to attend - especially to enable you to cover the expenses of those giving their time to speak at the event or lead sessions. I think waiving the fee for full time students is a good idea as well.
