I've been playing with SRU/SRW output from COPAC and have built this 'wrapper' so I can access stuff locally. Taking an ISBN, it simply returns COPAC data. Two things make its standalone existence worthwhile:
1) - You don't need to know CQL
2) It can dish out the MODs record and holdings as JSON

Its very very untested, but for those that are feeling brave ...

Hi, I just found this (s)mashing community and it looks very promising. Here are som URL:s that you might find usefull.

In our library catalog there several examples of mash-ups : http://julia.hj.se/F/?func=find-b-0&CON_LNG=eng

The catalog is a standard Aleph 18 that we have customized a bit.

The mash-ups are:
On the startpage - random mashup with a selection from new books RSS feeds, editorial news and lists like most popular search.

When doing a search we send the query to the following and display results along with the local results:

National union catalog LIBRIS API - http://librishelp.libris.kb.se/help/xsearch_eng.jsp
Ebsco Host Integration Toolkit - http://eit.ebscohost.com/
Uppsok - national repository for undergraduate theses - SRU - http://uppsok.libris.kb.se/sru/uppsok
MetaLib Xserver - we pass of searches to Science Direct and Google Scholar this way. A bit slow...

In the bibliographic view we pull data from:
Amazon AWS - editorial reviews and covers
Google Books - read more thing
Öppna bibliotek - reviews (in swedish) from swedish librarians - http://oppnabibliotek.se/ , this will hopefully evolve into a swedish folksonomy project API/database. The second phase of the project is developing a shared tag-database for swedish libraries.
Ad Libris - swedish bookstore

On the no-hits page we pull spelling suggestions from the Yahoo! spelling suggestion service -
developer.yahoo.com/search/web/V1/spellingSuggestion.html example: http://julia.hj.se/F/?func=find-b&request=ammerica&find_cod...

In the future we hope to explore Linked data provided by the national union catalog LIBRIS - http://blog.libris.kb.se/librisutv/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/proje... and the webservices from Thomson Reuters - http://scientific.thomsonreuters.com/support/faq/webservices/

Good stuff! Are you able to share the details of your Aleph 18 customisations - perhaps via the Ex Libris Commons if you can't do it in public?

I have some things up on El Commons under the Developer Zone - Aleph OPAC section and I hope to add some more before IGeLU in Finland.
